In collaboration with Prof. Raphael Lamed, Tel Aviv University and Ed Bayer, The Weizmann Institute we cloned and overproduced the cellulose binding domain (CBD) of the cellulosome, which led to the first crystal structure of a bacterial family-III cellulose-binding domain, and provided a general mechanism for protein- cellulose interaction. We also demonstrated the specificity of the cohesin-dockerin interaction and the cloning and over-expression of the cohesin domains provided the first three-dimensional crystal structure of a cohesin domain.Clostridia
